  • Increased energy
  • Weight control
  • Improved sleep
  • Reduction in risk of heart disease
  • Reduction in risk of developing many types of cancer
  • Reduction in risk of depression and anxiety
  • Building and maintenance of healthy bones, muscles and joints

General Lifestyle Tips for Men and Women:

  • Eat healthy. Nutritious foods give you energy and may lower your risk of certain diseases.  Focus on fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat or fat-free dairy products.  Learn nutrition basics and how to read a food label.
  • Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight can raise your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.  Check your body mass index (BMI).  Eat healthy foods, control portions, and keep active.
  • Get moving. Regular exercise is one of the most important things to do for your health.
  • Remain smoke-free. Smoking is linked to many leading causes of death, including cancer, lung disease, and stroke.  If you smoke, quit today!  And avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Get routine exams and screenings. Get regular checkups for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, sexually-transmitted dise4ases, and certain types of cancer.  And ask about screening tests for other diseases and conditions.
  • Take your meds. Thousands of deaths yearly could be prevented through proper medication.  Do not vary from your doctor’s prescription for usage.
  • Avoid heavy drinking. Drinking can lead to high blood pressure, cancer, psychological problems and accidents.
  • Manage stress. Balancing work and family obligations can protect your mental and physical health.  Find healthy ways to cope with stress.
  • Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep can affect your mood and health.  Check with your doctor if you think you have a serious problem like sleep apnea.
  • Know your lifestyle risks. Know what risks you are taking through your employment, lifestyle choices, or sexual activity and talk with your doctor about particular concerns.
  • Stay safe. Use seatbelts, helmets, and other safety equipment.  Maintain working smoke detectors.  Use condoms, wash your hands regularly, take care of your teeth, and wear sunscreen.
